Girls Behind Lace

Date

April 2024

Project type

Dance

This is a work created for Spring 2024 Dancers at Work Program A at Marymount Manhattan College. Using the idea of lace and its associations with femininity, I created this gauzy, haunted world to examine the embodiment of growing up and out of girlhood. I have also worked with visual imagery during this process–looking at shadows, outlines, and blurs in relation to aspects of femininity. This work contains non-linear narratives that disperse and reform. There is a sense of floating around in this in-between space as thoughts, feelings, or memories pop up and disappear just as quickly as they came, creating a suspension of time.
